Spring break

March 30th -- I tried to go to Emerald Lake, but the gate was still locked at the Trout Lake access road.  Instead, I hiked along the shoreline of Lake Roosevelt.  Then I camped out that night and spent the 31st hiking old logging roads and scoping out likely areas for morel hunting in a few weeks.
 The clouds looked ominous all day, but the rain held off until after I made it back to the car.
This bald eagle was sitting on shore when I walked up.  At first I thought it was sick or injured, but I guess it was actually just taking a nap!  When I approached, it flew--fortunately, I had the camera ready!
Not hiking, but cool nonetheless:  I was on my way home from work on March 18th and the elk herd was out in my neighbor's wheat field.  I quickly grabbed my camera and ran out to take their picture:
